ISU Ice Dance Seminar 2014

16 - 24 August 2014

Seoul, South Korea

This training is hosted by the KSU (Korean Skating Union) as they provide us accommodation and meals. Its about introducing ice dance to enlarge the community of ice dancers because some countries never had any knowledge about ice dancing, usually we only have single or pair skaters. Many countries were participating in this seminar (Aus, Uzb, China, Kor, Jap, Ind, Taiwan, HK, NZ).

Ice dance basically a partnership skating of man and woman dancing in the same rythm according to the music. It really demands a musicality interpretation and its all about the edges. For me, i think ice dance is hard because we can not move according to our body but we must adjust to our partner where we must move in sync.

It was a one week intensive training and seminar about ice dance including the off ice training such as conditioning and ball room dance. We were given many information about the rules, the choreography, and everything about it.
With Olympic bronze medalist in ice dancing, Maurizio Margaglio

For me, its a whole new learning experience especially because i never did any partnership before.

CHANDELIER - SIA

Party girls don't get hurt
Can't feel anything, when will I learn
I push it down, push it down
I'm the one "for a good time call"
Phone's blowin' up, they're ringin' my doorbell
I feel the love, I feel the love
1,2,3 1,2,3 drink
1,2,3 1,2,3 drink
1,2,3 1,2,3 drink
Throw them back, till I lose count

I'm gonna swing from the chandelier, from the chandelier
I'm gonna live like tomorrow doesn't exist
Like it doesn't exist
I'm gonna fly like a bird through the night, feel my tears as they dry
I'm gonna swing from the chandelier, from the chandelier
And I'm holding on for dear life, won't look down won't open my eyes
Keep my glass full until morning light, 'cause I'm just holding on for tonight
Help me, I'm holding on for dear life, won't look down won't open my eyes
Keep my glass full until morning light, 'cause I'm just holding on for tonight
On for tonight
Sun is up, I'm a mess
Gotta get out now, gotta run from this
Here comes the shame, here comes the shame
1,2,3 1,2,3 drink
1,2,3 1,2,3 drink
1,2,3 1,2,3 drink
Throw them back till I lose count

On for tonight
Cause i'm just holding on for tonight
No, i'm just holding on for tonight
On for tonight
On for tonight
Cause i'm just holding on for tonight
Cause i'm just holding on for tonight
No, i'm just holding on for tonight
On for tonight
On for tonight

Figure Skating Camp with Janusz Karweta

BX Rink - Bintaro Jaya Mall

20 - 22 June 2014

Off ice - Day 2
Off ice - Day 2 (7AM)
This is the first time i join a figure skating camp with foreign coach. Hes a Russian coach and actually hes a pair skater, you can google him to find out more about him.
On Ice - Day 1
There were 2 sessions each day (except on Friday); off ice and on ice session. Unfortunately i could only join Friday on ice and Saturday morning off-ice & on-ice session cos i had electro run event (i bought the ticket since months ago). However, i could get up early at 5.45AM on Saturday morning cos the off ice session starts at 7AM, i mention this to show you guys that i was giving 100% of my intention to this camp. Theres always a good thing behind the bad thing, it was expensive tho for the camp it costs $210 for the whole session but considering that i work at BX Rink so i got it for free! YEAAAYY! ^^

I dont have much to say in this post, you can see some of the exercise on the vid that i posted. Hmmm... Owh maybe its the rite time to share this famous quotes:

"Empty your cup to fill it in with water, if there is water inside the cup no matter how much water you fill it will always be outpouring"

Well.. i kinda modify it a little with my own words. Shortly, if you wanna learn something new and absorb it well, you need to empty your knowledge so that you can receive the new one.
Harshly, dont be a smart-*ss.

"NUSANTARA" medley contemporary traditional on ice

FRIDAY, 13th of June 2014

Grand Opening - Bintaro Jaya Exchange Mall

Chiquita Limer's dreamcreation

presents

The Stage view from second floor. Theres also fashion show before the skating performance.
This is my second traditional dance number on ice. The name "NUSANTARA" which means archipelago (Indonesian Javanese language), this word is used to reflect Indonesian islands that spread from Sumatera to Papua. I call it medley because the choreography consist of 2 performance (Opening and Closing), honestly it wasnt my idea to make it into two separated program but in case of some complicated business stuff which is gonna be so long to be mentioned so therefor i made 2 choreographies.
Both choreo use Indonesian folk music with modern instrument with a lot of remix from many songs. I got all the music from Youtube and none of them are mine but i gotta admit, the most challenging part of this piece was to find a great Indonesian folk music to be able to combine it with figure skating.

"Tumpengan" means feast. This is some kinda our tradition to express our gratitude so that everything will run smoothly.
I dont really want to describe all the details about my work in this piece but rather i want to share about my responsibility here as the choreographer.
It was my first time of getting a huge responsibility for a super huge company (Jaya), the main event of the Grand Opening of BX Mall was the skating performance which me as the choreographer. The owner of Jaya Property and all the important people came and watched the performance. Imagine how i must make the choreography in such limited time AND i just didnt act as the choreographer but also as a costume designer, stage manager, property manager, music editor, consumption, servant, etc..
Imagine how much works that i done. No you cant imagine how i spent every single practice buying foods and carry em all around without help from nowhere. I didnt mind. My priority is the skaters needs. I must show them that i appreciate every single effort they made.

Me posing for camera ^^
Me againnnn hehe :p

The event organizer used "INDONESIA-KU" concept by putting the stage and audience's seats on ice! Wow, im flattered cos it was my idea at the first place hehe (a bit OOT here). Anyhow, i was also performing in this piece. Why? Cos the ice is where i belong, im a true performer, i cant stand just watching them skate. LOL.
Shortly, it was a success! Phew i was so glad! HARDWORKS PAID OFF! Later i will upload it on youtube after i got the film.

Heres all the Bx Coaches that joining the show

Indonesia Figure Skating National Championship 2014

27-30 of May

Garden Ice - Bandung, Indonesia

My first official nametag xD
Its how we (coaches/choreographers) roll off ice
William Sutrisna, our Senior Champion
Its our first national championship. Congratulation Indonesia my beloved country finally we are able to make our own ISU Figure Skating National Championship,
Read my previous post about the junior challenge if anyone wondering about why it was our first ISU competition.

National competition must be held every year to find the champion from each level (Novice, Junior, and Senior). The winner of each level will represent their country to International Competition. We collect points, each athletes use that point to reach the world competition and to be qualify for the olympic. We only have Junior champion but we dont have female Senior skater.

My students, Maciko (Novice Advance) and Alvira (Junior)

Mister handsome Ryan Yee
Senior level demands a very high technical skills as well as performance. Skater above 18 years of age must compete in Senior level. We dont have a skater who qualify enough to compete in Senior level. Me? To be honest, for my age is kinda late, i know on my previous post i said nothing is ever too late. This time its different, kinda late means if i wanna join the Senior than i must sacrifice other things which mean i must leave my job, leave my dance study (im planning on continuing to master). At my age, its time for me to find my settle job, not competing anymore. im chasing up with time, im getting older and i cant start my job from another zero point.

Still have time for a selfie :p
Agus, me, Ryan (Malaysia), and Devin (Malaysia)

There are things we desire that boiling our blood but we cant do it, not because we cant but we have priorities. What is your priority? My priority is to make my parents happy. Be happy so that i can spread happiness to the world. As simple as that :)

Stealing time at the bird park. hihihi

Hey i become out of topic. Back to the nationals, so conclusively i wanna say congratulation Indonesia now we have taken one small step to the bright figure skating future! Yeaaahhh keep it up!

7 days of "Junior Trophy Challenge 2014"

20th - 27th of June

Manila, Philippines.

Indonesian Team with Jeanetta Folle (Mao Asada's coach)
It was the first time i watched an ISU competition live. How pathetic isnt it but hey nothing is ever too late.

The new SM Mall Ice Rink

--------------------------------
Let me give a lil intermezo on how i started the ISU system..
Indonesia was only a member of the ISI system of figure skating. Im too lazy to tell the difference between ISU and ISI but the point is ISI is more to fun or recreational skating while ISU is for olympic athletes.
Just know Indonesia has became part of ISU member, it gives us figure skaters as well as coaches hope to go for a further goal. To be honest i still have a lot to learn about it.

-----------------------------------

All competitor at the dinner

Me with Jeanetta Folle
Accidentally meet my Jenesys friends
Owkay back to the competition. We spent 7 days in Manila eventhi the competition was only 1 day but they had a training camp before it. It was Mao Asada's coach who trained the competitior! How lucky they were! I wish i could join but im too old already the max for Junior is 18.

Got an opportunity to join the training on the last day.
I learned A LOT like A LOT. For the whole 7 days each day i got sumthin new and how the skaters amazed me by their skills. I could feel their passion l, how they have had trained so hard to give the best, push themselves to the limit. Somehow it lights up the fire that had long gone inside me.
On the last day i got the chance to join the novice training session and i was feeling so excited! Hahaha cos maybe i was the youngest choreographer there.

The Junior Trophy Challenge has given me so much important things that i couldnt possibly get from elsewhere. 1 thing started to cling on my mind: You never late to start anything. Its true. Theres nothing is ever too late. It ia better to start late than to never start nothing.
So, cheer up guys! Put your chin up, pull your chest out. Do whatever you wanna do since years a go. Its not too late!

last mask dance training - DAY 2

 6 March 2013

Pamindo Mask Dance pratice
Pamindo mask and me wearing sobra
This is my last day of training and thank God and of course, to myself that i can overcome this 20mins Pamindo Mask Dance in just 2 days! Geez, this is crazy.
I woke up in the morning grabbed my mask and play the music straight away. I just brushed my teeth and start dancing before Mbak Wangi watch me again. This time i try dancing with sobra (the hat in Mask Dance), its damn difficult i swear. At least i can memorize all the movements.
All these hardwork and commitment were paid off! My legs are kinda soar but im so happy now i posses two types of Mask Dance from Indramayu.

Me and Mbak Wangi Indriya
I share many things with Mbak Wangi. She is a very descent person. I hope she feels comfortable these 2 days staying at my house. I just cant wait to learn another type of mask dance. I love this traditional dance so much i dunno why. Theres just something behind the mask. Maybe, just maybe, i feel like it wearing a mask because a mask could smile and hide the feeling inside or maybe we can pretend that were smiling for a while.

The thing is 2 days of commitment is nothing compare to what i must do for a bright future. This is nothing and it wasnt even enough. Never satisfy of what you have accomplished. It doesnt mean that we as human never feel grateful for what we already have, but its about doing something beyond your wildest dream. At least if you cant reach the moon, you will land among the stars, not fall to the ground.
